Hayden Panettiere to Receive Humane Society Award
The Humane Society of the United States has announced the nominations for the 22nd Genesis Awards and Heroes‘ own Hayden Panettiere is among the honorees. Hayden will be honored with The Wyler Award for helping to draw worldwide attention to the slaughter of whales and dolphins by the Japanese through her work with the “Save the Whales! Again” campaign. Hayden visited Japan and participated in blocking Japanese whaling ships. Her protest led to an arrest warrant being issued for her in Japan.
Hayden succeeds Sir Paul McCartney, last year’s recipient. “She’s an inspiring example to her generation, using her compassion, courage and celebrity to help animals in a very effective way,” said Beverly Kaskey, Senior Director of The Hollywood Office of the Human Society of the United States.
The award will be presented to Hayden at the 22nd Genesis Awards on March 29, 2008 at the Beverly Hilton. The awards honor news and entertainment media who bring attention to animal protection issues.
