Episode 2.7 Recap - ‘Out of Time’

Finally - something actually happened that I cared about in an episode. This one was full of things that are actually relelvant to the plot and moved the story along. Thank you Heroes for a good episode! (SPOILERS AHOY!)

HRG is photographing the paintings he found in the Ukraine. He calls Mohinder to inquire if he has a Company issue gun. Mohinder says he doesn’t have a gun and HRG explains that he is looking at a painting of him holding the smoking Company gun. Mohinder tells him not to send the photos of the paintings because The Company has given him a partner. He quickly hangs up as Niki comes into the room. HRG burns the paintings.

Back at Company central, Bob has begun an evacuation of the building. Matt Parkman and Nathan Petrelli show up and explain that they believe Bob is the next target of the killer, Maury “Daddy” Parkman. Bob formulates a plan to stop him which involves Matt using his mind controlling powers to disable him and Mohinder and Niki making sure that he gets injected with the Shanti virus. As Mohinder and Niki prepare for their confrontation with The Nightmare Man, Niki sees D.L. who tells her what a loser she is and how she’ll never get Micah back. Obviously she’s been had by The Nightmare Man. In her delusion, she sees Bob kill D.L. and goes a little bonkers, knocking Mohinder out. She sets out to find Bob and kill him.

Meanwhile, Parkman sits at Molly’s bedside to tell her he loves her and psych himself up for his meeting with his father. As he says the words “I love you” Molly’s brain activity shows a peak. He tries several times, both verbally and telepathically, and each time she has a reaction. All of a sudden he is transported into a kitchen where Molly sits. She tells him this is where The Nightmare Man keeps her. Matt tries to get out, but can’t and turns around to see his dad standing there. He has managed to bring Maury into the nightmare place. He confronts his dad about him leaving when Matt was a kid and eventually escapes with Molly, who wakes from her coma. Maury is now trapped in the nightmare place and lies lifeless on the floor.

Bob and Nathan are in an office discussing the company and Adam Monroe. Bob says Adam was the one who got the original 12 together in hopes of saving the world. But the power went to his head and he thought he was a god. Bob reveals to Nathan that Peter is still alive and shows him a video of Peter from 3 months ago. He tells him that he was last in Cork, Ireland but they have lost track of him. Niki busts through the door (by banging on it like in a certain painting, perhaps) into Bob’s office with the virus in her hand. Nathan tries to talk sense into her and uses Micah as a reason she shouldn’t do this. Niki injects herself with the virus in her despair. Mohinder tries to cure her with his blood but it doesn’t work. Apparently she has injected herself with a new strain of the Shanti virus and there is no cure.

Bob calls Mohinder (who now has a broken nose with tape across it - just like in the painting) to his office and shows him a picture of Claire. He says she is the only hope of a cure for the Shanti virus because of her regenerative powers. Mohinder says HRG will never let them take her and Bob gives him a Company issue gun. This is where Mo should have had an a-ha moment, but instead he confesses to Bob that he has been working with HRG to take down the company but is now not sure what is right.

Back in the past, Hiro has been captured by Kensei and is being held captive and kept drugged at White Beard’s camp. Kensei stops by and tells them that he has been promised half of the country and Yaeko as his bride. Yaeko and her father are being kept in the same tent. As their guard steps away, Yaeko picks the lock on her chains and gets free. She helps wake Hiro from his drug induced stupor and convinces him to teleport them out of there. Hiro tells Yaeko that he must go back and stop White Beard and Kensei. He zaps himself back to the gun tent. As he prepares to blow it up, Kensei comes in. They have a swordfight (just like in the paintings) and set the tent on fire. Hiro tries to convince Kensei to teleport with him, but Kensei refuses and vows to destroy everything Hiro loves. I can’t believe Hiro still believes in this guy. Hiro teleports just as the tent explodes. He goes back later to find no sign of Kensei - nothing but his helmet, that is. He says goodbye to Yaeko and teleports once more, back to Ando’s cubicle in the present (thank God!). He and Ando share delight at saving the world and being back together. Hiro says he can’t wait to tell his father all about it. Ando breaks the news that his father is dead.

West shows up at Claire’s house to bring her waffles. Her mom thinks he’s cute and sweet. Claire is freaked out because of her dad being “the man with the horn-rimmed glasses” and all. West shows her an article in the back of the newspaper about cheerleader Debbie and how she claimed she saw a boy who could fly and a girl dropped and bloody. Claire freaks out about that and West says it’s no big deal. They canoodle for a while, then HRG comes in from his trip and West says they have to get out because he has come for them. Claire chases him out and tells him the truth and he is not impressed. He flies off just as HRG comes out the door to greet Claire. She thinks she has fooled him, but Mom spills the beans about Claire having a boyfriend. HRG confronts Claire with the article from the paper. He tells the family that they have to move because Claire has put them in danger. Claire tells him he’ll be moving without her.

In the future, Peter and Caitlyn are wandering around empty New York City. Suddenly, a HAZMAT team shows up and captures them. They take them to a decontamination center where they put them in a shower and scrub their naked bodies (because what’s a Heroes episode this season without a little naked Peter?). After they are decontaminated, Peter is filled in about the virus and how it has killed 93% of the world’s population. They show him all the dead bodies and pan back to reveal another of Isaac’s paintings (Peter with the biohazard symboll next to him). They take Peter into a room where his mother sits, only he can’t remember that she is his mom. She tells him about all of his powers and how he is the only one who can save the world. She helps him remember her and tells him about his brother. She says Nathan died in the first wave of the virus. As they are preparing to leave, Peter sees Caitlyn being shuffled out with some others. He grabs her hand but can’t hold on. He teleports back to the building in Montreal.

In Montreal, Peter is trying to figure out what is happening and hears a noise. He turns around and shoots out an electrical burst which is caught in a hand. The hand immediately heals and the face behind the hand peeks around the corner. It’s Kensei who introduces himself to Peter as Adam Monroe!

(Darn I wish I hadn’t read all of those spoilers. Kind of ruined that fantastic scene for me!)

Owww Claire is so sexy… She is my favorite character… What do you think it’s going to happen? Is she going to be a cheerleader again?
I saw this funny video where some players ran over a cheerleader who was in their way…
    weshow.com/us/p/21585/cheerleader_hit_by_football_players
That would not be a problem for Claire, right? LOL

  2. Ebonvoice Says:

Out of time?? Out of breath!!

    Gotta start with Hiro’s storyline!

First, I thought Hiro was going to live out Kenzei’s adventures (Booooooriiiinnng!) Instead, Yaeko offers to tell the story of Kenzei! (this was a GREAT way of bringing a quick end to the storyline, without it being a cliched cop-out! I take back almost everything I said last week!)

The “Little Rascals Double Take” award goes to Maury (Morrie?). After Nathan and Matt’s hallucinogenic smackdown two weeks ago, it got me thinking: Is Morrie the one giving Nathan nightmares? This week, I thought: Is Morrie the one who split Niki/Jessica’s personality? This may a moot point, since Morrie is now trapped in a nightmare of his own making. Way to go, Matt-Daddy!

West, the most annoying teen since Johnny Bravo, shows up at Claire’s house uninvited–
Excuse me, but did anyone see “Cape Fear”? I know he had to show up at Claire’s for the storyline to move forward (C’mon, we knew he was going to run into Noah eventually!), but ew! Still, my money’s on West forgiving Claire so he can continue to lure her over to the “dark side” (you know, “anger, fear, aggression”? West has that in spades!) I have an idea how HRG gets shot, but I really don’t want to spoil anything, here!

The “giddy as a schoolgirl” prize goes to Hiro and Ando’s reunion– ’nuff said!

JAW DROP MOMENT NUMBER ONE: Am I the only one who thought Peter and Caitlyn were going to get out of the dystopic 2008 together? Am I the only one going OMG when they were separated before Peter could return to the present?

Suresh’s storyarc is still the most heartfelt and exciting to me. The poor guy is bouncing back and forth over how to do the right thing– his altruism has run smack-dab into reality (you know what I mean) and it’s causing a genuine and palpable conflict. Wow. How many of us have gone through something like this? Again, Suresh has me on my toes!!

JAW DROP MOMENT NUMBER TWO: Adam Monroe is “Kenzei”?!? I really did NOT see that one coming!! And what’s he been doing in the last 325 years, anyway? Could HE have been the one to kill Kaito? Despite this development, I still doubt that Monroe has the smarts to be the Machiavellian puppetmaster that Bob believes him to be. There’s gotta be someone higher up on the food chain, and whoever it may be is just giving me chills!

I’m all tuckered out from this episode! There IS one thing, though– Since Caitlyn is stuck in mid-2008, can she tell me if “Journeyman” is going to be renewed, so I can decide whether to watch it?

  3. Debbie Says:

    Excellent points.

I, too, am so glad to have Hiro out of ancient Japan. Man I thought that story would never end.

I think we’re going to find out more about Nathan’s hallucinations next week.

Agreed West is creepy, but I foresee he and HRG working together if the Company ends up getting to Claire.

And I so wish I had stayed away from all of those spoilers about Kensei - I already knew he was Adam Monroe. But even though the surprise was gone, the greatness was still there.
