Episode 2.6 Recap - ‘The Line’

This episode seemed like filler to me. I was so hoping for something spectacular after last weeks Nathan vs. Matt romp. They aren’t doing much for the naysayers who are trashing Heroes all over the web now are they? They need to move this story along…and fast.
Well, as boring as it was, here’s what went down (Do I even need to say it? OK…SPOILERS FOLLOW):
Mohinder was evaluating Monica at The Company. She was doing her best gymnastics after viewing it on TV. Bob came in and took Mohinder aside to tell him he needed to give Monica a dose of the virus to see if it would take her powers away. Mohinder noticed a file folder Bob was holding labeled “Adam Monroe”. Mohinder made a call to H.R.G. and told him what they wanted him to do to Monica. H.R.G. told him to just do it so he wouldn’t blow his cover. Mohinder went in to give her the virus but couldn’t bring himself to do it and left the room. He confronted Bob and told him he couldn’t give her the injection and Bob told him if he didn’t, someone else would. Mo responded by tossing a stool through the glass case which held the vials of “Shanti” virus. He decided he would take Molly and leave. Molly, still in a coma, was too sick to leave. Bob had a change of heart and asked Mohinder to stay. Bob told him there was someone who could help and Mohinder assumed it was this Adam Monroe character. Wrong! Later we find out it was good old Niki (who actually seemed more Jessica to me. Yes/No?). She told him she was his new partner. Cut to Bob in New Orleans dropping Monica off at home. He left her with a folder of info and phone numbers and a video Ipod containing all kinds of things she might need to watch and mimic. Why did Bob have a sudden change of heart? He has to be up to no good.
H.R.G. and The Haitian were still in Odessa, Russia. They paid a visit to a man named Ivan, who apparently trained H.R.G. in all the evil ways of The Company. They tied him up and slapped him around and H.R.G. demanded to know where the series of 8 Isaac Mendez paintings were, but Ivan refused to tell him. H.R.G. ordered The Haitian to remove some cherished memories of Ivan’s wife from his mind, and The Haitian obliged. Ivan tried to convince H.R.G. to come back to The Company, telling him they had “new directives” and he and his family would be safe. H.R.G. seemed to think about it for half a second or so, but instead threatened to take the memories of Ivan’s deceased daughter. Ivan decided to cooperate rather than lose those memories and told him the paintings were in a warehouse. Ivan asked if they were going to remove all the memories of the day’s events and H.R.G. started making a mess of the place to make it look like a home invasion and popped a cap in Ivan’s head. Yowsa! They made their way to the warehouse and found the container with the paintings. Thanks to reader Stoaks for sending me a link to this screencap of the paintings (click to enlarge):
In addition to the H.R.G. painting we have already seen, it looks like we have a hand holding a vial (of virus perhaps), an electric man who looks a lot like Sylar to me, a battle between Hiro (or is it Peter) and Kensei, there’s another that looks like a dead blonde laying on some stairs, a man holding something up in the air and another that is obscured by The Haitian in the shot.
Back in Costa Verde, Claire was trying to make her lies to Daddy a little more true by making the cheerleading squad. Snobby head cheerleader Debbie was having none of it though (why are the bitchy ones always named Debbie?). West convinced Claire that they should teach Debbie a lesson by humiliating her. So Claire phoned Daddy Bennet in Russia, and although he was in the middle of torturing Ivan, he took the time to talk to his Claire Bear. She asked if she could borrow the car, and he said she could. Claire suspiciously asked where he was and he told her he was at a management training class. Claire said she thought he had to wait a year to take that class and he told her he was a fast learner, but I don’t think Claire was buying it. Later that evening, Claire and West found Debbie getting drunk and hazing new recruits on the school campus. Claire took Debbie aside to talk to her and West, disguised in a ski mask, flew down from the sky, swooped Claire up and promptly dropped her onto the concrete steps. Debbie went for help and when the police arrived she told her story of the flying man and the twisted body, but there was no body to be found. Claire showed up to see what was going on and Debbie looked like a drunk idiot. She got suspended and kicked off the squad, making room for Claire as a cheerleader.
Ando returned to scroll deciphering and to find out more of Hiro’s story. Back in 1671, Hiro and Kensei managed to find the Swordsmith who told them that White Beard had amassed a large supply of guns. Hiro told Kensei he must destroy them and Kensei agreed. They fled with the Swordsmith, but as they were running away a baddie fired a gun at Yaeko so Hiro grabbed her and teleported to safety. OOPS. Yaeko was confused at first, but she’s a smart girl so she figured out what happened. She started putting the pieces together and realized it was Hiro she had fallen in love with. They kissed but were seen by Kensei who was none too happy. That’s where Ando’s scrolls ended. But we got to see a little more. Kensei confronted Hiro, who promised he would never kiss Yaeko again. He and Kensei started to take off to destroy the guns but instead, Kensei whacked Hiro in the head and knocked him unconscious. Apparently Kensei had made a deal with White Beards men, who had Yaeko and the Swordsmith in captivity. They offered Kensei anything he wanted (in exchange for Hiro perhaps).
Sylar, Maya and Alejandro were still driving to the U.S. What the heck is taking them so long? Yeesh. Anyhow, they made it to the border and drove right through a hole in the fence. They were immediately surrounded by Bubba Heads with guns. Sylar convinced Maya to use her powers to get by the men. Alejandro was not too happy about that and tried to kick Sylar’s ass. Maya stopped them from fighting and Alejandro told her he was not helping her control the black ooziness anymore. When Maya left Sylar and Alejandro alone, Sylar told him (in English so he couldn’t understand it of course) that as soon as he got his powers back he was killing the Wonder Twins and taking their powers…and even if he didn’t get his powers back it didn’t matter because Maya was his shiny new toy. Zach Quinto was uber creepy tonight dontcha think? MMMM HMMMM.
Peter decided to leave for Montreal to find out what his painting was all about. Caitlyn insisted on going with him because she wanted to find the woman who killed her brother and “kick her ass”. Yeah right Caitlyn. She would turn you in to burnt toast faster than you can say “Lucky Charms.” They arrived at the building, which inside looked like a storage facility. A note taped to a mirror had Peter’s name on it. The note said The Company was evil and the world was in danger. It was signed Adam (presumably Monroe). Peter had no idea what the heck it was all about. He and Caitlyn shared a hug and teleported to an empty New York City. Peter grabbed a piece of paper that was blowing around on the deserted street. It was a mandatory evacuation order directing everyone to leave NYC due to a biohazard by June 14, 2008. Uh-oh. Time for Peter to save the world again it seems.

Is the electric man with the vial who you think looks like Sylar not Mohinder with a gun?

OK, on looking at it again, I think you’re right. I think that’s a smoking gun, not an electrical bolt. Could be Mohinder. I’m trying to find a better cap of that one.
