Episode 2.4 Recap | “The Kindness of Strangers”

This week’s Heroes was the best so far this season I think. Missing were Hiro, Niki and Peter, but we met Micah’s new family in New Orleans and got a little more of Matt Parkman’s story (which made me happy - I love me some Grunny!).

normal_401_1.jpgLet’s start with Claire, shall we? H.R.G. decided that Claire must have a boyfriend (probably because she was macking on some guy in his death painting) and confronted her about it. She said no way and at school, tried to break things off with West. West insisted she let him take her on one date. She reluctantly agreed and told her parents she was going to the library. Good one Claire. Instead she met West down the street and he flew her off for a rendezvous atop the famous Hollywood sign. They talked and he gained her trust by catching her as she fell. They shared another kiss. Awww. He returned her home, but very late. Daddy Bennet confronted her about where she had been and she told him she tried out for cheerleading and made the squad so they took her out to celebrate. Daddy was not too happy about the cheerleading thing but decided it was better than a boyfriend so all was well…except for the fact that Claire hadn’t actually tried out for cheerleading.

normal_258_1.jpgMaya, Alejandro and Derek, the prisoner, were making their way toward the United States. As they were driving down the road, they spotted a man laying in the road. They got out to investigate and discovered our good friend Sylar, who was still powerless. They loaded him up in the car and drove off. Maya told him they were going to the U.S. to find Dr. Suresh and showed him the book. Sylar (who had introduced himself as Gabriel Gray) told them he was a friend of Suresh’s and would help them find him. As they made a pit stop along the way, Derek discovered the Wanted Poster featuring Maya and her brother and warned Sylar. Sylar was intrigued and realized they must have powers so he whacked Derek in the head with a brick and took his car keys. He told them that Derek had called the cops but he would help them escape. Maya panicked and started her oozing eyeball thing, causing Sylar to feel sick. Alejandro grabbed her hands and stopped her before she could kill Sylar. Sylar seemed very turned on and told Maya he understood that it wasn’t her fault. He had gained Maya’s trust, but Alejandro still seemed leary of good ol’ Sylar.

NUP_109247_0232.jpgMicah was adjusting to his new life in New Orleans with Nana, Monica and Damon. As they had breakfast, Damon was trying to figure out a way to get $65 for the pay-per-view wrestling match while Nana was watching someone make tomato flowers on TV. Monica was leaving for work, and watched the TV for a moment, making a crack about the tomato flowers. Monica went to work at the Burger joint and proceeded to make her own perfect tomato flower while waiting to find out if she had made it into the management training program. Meanwhile, Micah had impressed Damon with his ability to get free pay-per-view with his power (although Damon thought he tinkered with the cable). Monica came home to discover them watching the wrestling match and wasn’t really happy about it. She and Micah shared a touching moment. The next night while Monica was working, a robber came in and started stealing money from the cash register. Monica remembered the wrestling match and managed a perfect 619 move, knocking out the bad guy (Thanks to WWE Daily for helping me become an expert in wrestling terminology).

normal_339_1.jpgAngela Petrelli confessed to Kaito Nakamura’s murder to protect someone…but who? Parkman could read her mind and knew it’s a ruse, but he went along with it. Nathan, who has just shared a touching moment with his kids, has shaved and arrived at the hospital. Parkman told him that he knew his mother was lying and he needed Nathan to help him figure out why. They went back to casa Petrelli to look through some old photos. They found a photo of the 12 older generation Heroes. In the photo are deceased members Kaito Nakamura, Charles DeVeaux and PaPa Petrelli, as well as Angela Petrelli and Bob the Company Man. But Matt saw someone else he recognized. His FATHER. Whoa, that took me by surprise! Matt headed home and Nathan looked in the mirror to see his disfigured reflection again. He punched the mirror, doing a number on his hand. At home, Parkman asked Molly to help him find his dad and showed her the photo. Molly freaked out and told Matt that his dad was the nightmare man. She didn’t want to help find him because it would be too dangerous. Mohinder and Parkman had a lover’s spat over the whole ordeal. Molly later changed her mind and agreed to help find him. She could see he wass in an apartment #9 in Philadelphia but before she could tell them anymore she started screaming and went into a catatonic state. Matt could hear her screaming for help in her thoughts. Nice going Matt.

I loved the Parkman story. I can’t wait to find out more about the 12 in the photograph. Something major is going to happen there.

Let me know what you liked/disliked about the episode.
