Happy Birthday Tim Sale

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

14691751451press4302008100907PM The artist behind the Heroes paintings is celebrating his birthday today. Tim Sale was born in Ithaca, New York on May 1, 1956. Sale grew up in the Seattle, Washington area and studied art at the University of Washington for two years. He also attended the John Buscema Workshop and The School of Visual Arts in New York City before returning to Seattle.

Tim’s first comic book work came when he drew for Phil Foglio on Warp Graphics Myth Adventures in 1983. He went on to work on Thieves World for Donning/Starblaze in 1985 before eventually moving on to mainstream comics.

Much of Tim’s work has been a collaboration with Jeph Loeb. They have worked together on Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory and the Marvel color books which feature Spider-Man, Daredevil and Hulk. The duo, of course, went on to work on Heroes - Tim as the artist behind Isaac Mendez’ paintings and Loeb as co-executive producer.

Watching Heroes would like to wish Tim a very happy birthday!

Heroes Stamps Now Available at the NBC Store

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

00052582_376274_400.jpgNBC and Stamps.com are offering Stamps which feature the Heroes characters and mythology. These PhotoStamps are officially authorized by the US Postal Service.

There are 5 stamps available which feature the art of Tim Sale - Claire, Hiro, Nathan, Peter and the Helix Symbol. Each set includes 20 stamps and sells for $21.95  A collectors set, featuring one sheet of each of the stamps, is also available. That set sells for $99.95. Each sheet is official U.S. Postage (overpriced as it may be) and comes packaged in an “ultra clear” sealed sleeve with a backboard.

These are really neat collectibles, and real postage to boot. Of course, once you pay shipping, you’ll end up spending over a $1.00 to send a letter instead of the standard 41 cents, so maybe their appeal is purely collectible. You can find them at the NBC/Universal Store.

Hayden Panettiere to Headline Big Apple Con | Tim Sale Also to Appear

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

14930745451press1016200781146PM.jpgMy friends at FanBoyTheatre.com have alerted me to the fact that Heroes star Hayden Panettiere and artist Tim Sale will be appearing at the Big Apple Con in New York! The Big Apple Con is the oldest and longest running comic, art, and toy Sci-Fi show in New York City!

Hayden will make her appearances on Saturday and Sunday but no times have been listed yet. I’m not sure what Tim’s schedule will be but I will keep you posted as I learn more.

Joining Hayden and Tim will be many celebrities and artists including Katey Sagal (Futurama, 8 Simple Rules), GiGi Edgely (Farscape), Traci Bingham (Baywatch), Butch Patrick (Eddy Munster of The Munsters), legendary comedian Soupy Sales and Star Trek’s Chekov, Walter Koenig. There is a long list of comic book artists as well. For a complete list of those scheduled to appear, check the Con’s website (linked below).

The convention runs from Friday November 16 through Sunday, November 18. Times are 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on Sunday.

The convention will take place at Penn Plaza Pavilion located at 401 Seventh Avenue at 33rd St. This is directly across the street from Madison Square Garden, so it shouldn’t be hard to find! Admission $20 at the door but you can order advance tickets from the Big Apple Con website for $18. They are looking for volunteers to work the convention. If you’re interested click “Volunteers” on the menu for more info.

9th Wonders Artist

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Since the start of the show, I’ve been fascinated by the artwork that is attributed to Isaac Mendez. Isaac’s work, paintings and comic book, is in actuality that work of real life artist Tim Sale. Sale has produced artwork for many A list characters in the Marvel and DC universes.
