Watching Heroes

Since NBC elected to release their 65 week schedule in April, the traditional “upfronts” were scrapped and instead NBC/U threw a party, the NBC/Universal Experience. Attending were ad buyers, reporters and stars from all of NBC/U’s shows. In addition to all the partying, NBC made a few key announcements, most notably that Jimmy Fallon will be taking over for Conan O’Brien when he leaves Late Night to take over the Tonight Show. NBC entertainment chief Ben Silverman also confirmed that Nissan will continue to sponsor Heroes.

There were lots of familiar faces from Heroes making an appearance at the festivities. Take a look:

Well they may not be Emmy’s, but Heroes has received nominations from two more organizations, The Constellation Awards and The Webbys.

The Heroes mobile site is up for a Webby Award. The Webby Awards are just what they sound like - awards for outstanding websites. The Heroes mobile site is up for the Best Entertainment Mobile Site. The site is up against Bravo Mobile Web, Cosmo Mobile: 100 Hot Cities, Fake Calls, Dude Decoder & Cocktails!, Disney on Mobile and Radical Media for Iphone.

Also recognizing Heroes is The Constellation Awards. The Constellation Awards are Canada’s annual science fiction awards. It’s relatively new, now in its second year. The nominees are selected and voted upon by the Canadian viewers. This year, they’ve selected Heroes for several nominations:

For the category Best Male Performance in a 2007 Science Fiction Television Episode, Heroes gets 2 nominations: Christopher Eccleston for the episode “Distractions” and Jack Coleman for the episode “Company Man.” Other nominees in the category include David Tennant (Doctor Who), Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) and Zachary Levi (Chuck). It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a picture post, so let’s catch up with a few of the events the stars of Heroes have been spotted at over the last month.

Ali Larter attended the Inaugural Avant-Garde Gala hosted by W Magazine & LACMA at LACMA BCAM on March 8 in Los Angeles. She showed off her new engagement ring to photographers.

According to TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello, the Heroes will be back to work filming new episodes in May which should result in 10-13 new episodes ready for Season 3 in September. That means we could get a huge arc of shows without any breaks. I haven’t officially seen a start date for the season, but I have seen September 7 mentioned in some other blogs. September 7!

Ausiello also reported that Kristen Bell has not yet been signed for Season 3. He says that she is in negotiations to come back but a deal has not yet been reached. I’ll keep you posted as I learn more.

Zachary Quinto will be a guest on VH-1’s Free Radio on March 7th at 9:30/8:30 central. You might remember that Jack Coleman was a guest on an earlier episode. If you didn’t catch that, check out this video:

The biggest news to come from this past weekend (besides the New York Giants winning the Superbowl) would be the rumor that the WGA strike may be coming to an end very soon. Word is that the AMPTP and the WGA have come to agreement on the key issues and will hopefully be finalizing the wording and bringing it to the union’s board sometime this week. Whether an end to the strike would bring us any more Heroes episodes this season isn’t clear. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the deal goes through and we will see a few more episodes!

Set your TiVo for Friday, February 8. Jack Coleman (HRG) will be guest starring on VH-1’s new improvised comedy, Free Radio. The show centers around a radio talk show and Jack will be playing himself. Back-to-back episodes start at 9:30 pm Eastern. Rumor has it that Zachary Quinto (Sylar) will also be guest starring in a future episode. I’ll keep you posted as I find out more about that. (more…)

You might not be able to catch your favorite Heroes stars on the small screen right now, but over the next few months there are several movies coming out that will help fill that void.

Coming up on February 8, Milo Ventimiglia (Peter) stars in Pathology. He plays Ted Gray, a med student who finds himself caught up in a deadly game to see who can commit the perfect murder. Alyssa Milano stars as his girlfriend. Here’s a peek at the trailer:

The cast of Heroes will be making a special appearance at the Closing Day Event of the Jules Verne Festival in Los Angeles later this month. Nine cast members plus Heroes creator Tim Kring and writer/producer Jeph Loeb will appear on stage.

The big news, though, is that they will be screening the secret unseen episode which is the first chapter of the 3rd volume, “Villains.”

You can purchase and print your tickets online at the Jules Verne Festival website. Here are all the details:

We’re less than 2 hours away from the Season 2 premiere. I have a few snippets of things to tell you about, but I’ll make it quick. I don’t want you to be reading this and miss the show. 

*Did anyone catch Masi Oka on the intro for NBC’s Sunday Night Football last night? He did some kind of skit with Terrell Owens (T.O.) of the Dallas Cowboys but I didn’t find out he was going to be on until after the game had started so I missed it. I haven’t been able to find a video of it, so if you know where I can watch, let me know.

*My new TV Guide magazine arrived today (the one with Kristen Bell, Hayden Panettiere and Ali Larter on the cover). It has a big article on Heroes, but across the top it had a warning telling me to stop reading if I hadn’t watched the season 2 premiere, so I did. I’ll be reading it after the show tonight so I’ll fill you in on anything you need to know tomorrow.

*Don’t forget that Jack Coleman (H.R.G. aka Noah Bennett, aka Claire’s dad) and creator Tim Kring will be liveblogging at NBC.com right after the show.

*Director Greg Beeman has a new blog up, but it contains some spoilers so you might want to wait until after the show to read it.

Watching Heroes, NBC Heroes, Masi Oka, Terrell Owens, Sunday Night Football, Dallas Cowboys, Jack Coleman, Tim Kring, Greg Beeman, Kristen Bell, Hayden Panettiere, Ali Larter, TV Guide Magazine

It’s less than 3 days until the season premiere, and NBC is really gearing up. They’ve announced the premiere week Heroes contest (where you can win a car) and now have re-launched the official Heroes website with fresh content and a streamlined look.

At the revamped site, you can access graphic novels, get episode information, view Heroes World Tour photos and videos, see a preview of the 9th Wonders blog, check out the fan forum, and much more. There is also a section inviting you to visit the companion websites of Primatech Paper, the Yamagato Fellowship and Activating Evolution, where you can see new exclusive video about Mohinder’s sister, Shanti, and the mysterious illness she suffered from.

The most exciting bit for me, though, was the big announcement on the home page that Heroes creator Tim Kring and H.R.G. himself (Jack Coleman) will be liveblogging on Monday night immediately following the season premiere. The blogging begins at 10 pm eastern/9 pm central on September 24 but you can visit http://blog.nbc.com/heroes/ right now and leave questions for Tim and Jack and they’ll do their best to answer all of them when they go live.

And if that’s not enough excitement for one day, watch this video (from YouTube user EzraSmall) featuring five (count ‘em, FIVE) full scenes from Monday night’s premiere. We get a glimpse of Mohinder, Claire, H.R.G., Hiro and a few newcomers as well. But remember – this could contain spoilers, so if you don’t want to be spoiled, don’t watch.

Well the Emmy’s are now history, and Heroes came home with nothing. They had too much going against them: Sci-Fi, Fan Favorite, The Sopranos ending. They lost to The Sopranos in both the directing category and the best drama category. Masi Oka, who was up for Best Supporting Actor, was beaten by Terry O’Quinn of LOST. I must admit, though, if Masi couldn’t win, I’m glad Terry O’Quinn took the trophy. He is fantastic on LOST.

Even if they didn’t come home with the statues, the cast still looked great. Here are a few photos from last night:

A Pre-Emmy Cast Party was held last night at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. It was sponsored by Perry Ellis and Vanity Fair. All of our cast favorites were there, including a few we thought were “dead.” Could this mean there’s a chance they aren’t as dead as we thought they were? Eh, probably not. They all look like they’re having a blast though, dead or not.

As a follow up to the previous HRG interview, I found this cool write up over at news1130.com

If the vague clues from Jack Coleman are anything to go by, next Monday will be a big night for his mysterious character Mr. Bennet - a.k.a. H.R.G. (horn-rimmed glasses) - on the popular NBC drama “Heroes,” about a group of people with extraordinary abilities.

HRG has got to be one of the most pivotal characters in the show and coleman does an excellent job with the character. Be sure to give this article a read if you’re a fan of HRG.

One of neighbors in the 451 Press network, Watching The View, posted this about Jack Coleman on the view:

When asked if HRG is good or bad, Jack responded “a little bit of both.” He revealed that in an upcoming episode, a series of flashbacks will reveal the origin and history of his character. He said that there are no plans to kill off his character that he knows of, but later added “not just yet.”

Make sure to go and read the whole thing in case you missed the view (I did! DOH!). I thought it was pretty cool to find out that Jack is a 6th generation descendant of Ben Fanklin.

Also, while your getting ready for tonights episode head over to Heroes Revealed and listen to HRG’s Voicemail, which has been hacked by Hana “Wireless” Gitelman. She should be introduced on tonights episode for those who haven’t been reading the official Heroes web site (shame on you! Yes, you!)
