‘Heroes’ Honored with BAFTA Award
Wednesday, April 30th, 2008On April 20, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) held their annual Television Awards at The Palladium in London. Though the ceremony honors the best in British television, they also give out an award for the best international program airing in Britain. This year’s nominees included American favorites Family Guy, Californication, My Name is Earl and Heroes. Although they had some stiff competition, it’s no surprise (to me anyway) that Heroes took home the trophy that night.
Heroes creator and executive producer Tim Kring was on hand to accept the award, along with the Petrelli brothers, Milo Ventimiglia and Adrian Pasdar. The award was presented by British actor Alan Dale who you might know from his recent appearances as Charles Widmore on LOST, Bradford Meade on Ugly Betty and Dr. Aaron Copely on Torchwood. Milo and Adrian acted as presenters at the ceremony as well, announcing the award for Best Drama Serial. The award went to Britz.
Take a look at a few photos from the night:

The 2008 Hugo Awards nominees were announced by Denvention 3, the 66th World Science Fiction Convention. The entire Season 1 of Heroes has been nominated for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form and is up against movie favorites such as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Golden Compass and Enchanted.

Heroes may have been snubbed by the more conventional awards this year, but the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films (best known as the Saturn Awards) did not forget about them.
Yet another honor (is it an honor?) has been bestowed upon our favorite show. That is the title of the most illegally downloaded show of 2007. I guess they should be flattered, right? Especially since they’ve been virtually ignored by the Golden Globes and SAG Awards so far this year.
Some are criticizing the Family Friendly Programming Forum’s choices for best drama and best comedy this year. Heroes was the drama winner while ABC’s Ugly Betty got the nod for best comedy. The awards were handed out on November 29 and the ceremony aired last week on the CW.
Spike TV has announced the biggest televised celebration of horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic books ever under one roof. “SCREAM 2007″ tapes this Friday, October 19, at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. It will premiere on Spike TV on Tuesday, October 23 from 10:00 PM-Midnight, ET/PT.
