Breaking News: Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander Fired from Heroes

by

Variety reports that a big shakeup has taken place at Heroes.  Word came came down today that co-executive producers/writers Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb were let go from the show.

Both Loeb and Alexander have been with the show since the first season and have basically led the day-to-day production operation under the direction of creator/executive producer Tim Kring.  Apparently the network executives have been frustrated with the creative direction of the show and large budget overruns this season, and had to place blame somewhere…unfortunately that fell with Loeb and Alexander.

Jesse Alexander wrote on his blog: "I write this with a heavy heart. As of today I am no longer a writer/producer on HEROES. I could not be prouder of all the work I did on the show and wish all my Heroic Scribbler pals the very best. I will certainly continue to blog at GLOBAL COUCH."

How do you feel about this development Heroes fans?

  1. Dreyesbo Says:

WHAAAAAT! How can they fire them? While I agree that the show isn’t creatively going very well, it’s no reason to fire them. They are respected writers, with Comic Book cred… I don’t know yet what to make of this. Sadly, we’ll not feel the repercussions until Episode 16 or so, when it’ll be to late.

  2. AnnieB Says:

Woah! That is most definately unexpected… and I’m not sure it’s the right decision. They’ve both done great work on the show, and I think it will definately be a different show without them. Like Dreyesbo said, we won’t really be able to see the effects until around Episode 16…

  3. Lou Says:

I’m shocked and upset. I’ve been defending this show this season from all the plot turns and characterization that people don’t like but this, this has pissed me off more than anything else.

  4. Dreyesbo Says:

What I wonder…do they mean they don’t like how it is creatively going now? Or how it’s creatively going in their current shooting, which is Volume 4. If it is the former, then that means the execs didn’t bothered visiting the show while it was shooting, and changes could be made. If it is about what they are currently shooting, I’m even more worried.

  5. AnnieB Says:

@Dreyesbo - that’s what I’m wondering also. It seems like a really strange move to fire them in the middle of a season…

  6. Debbie Says:

@Dreyesbo and AnnieB - Some of the other media outlets are reporting that Loeb and Alexander left because of “creative differences.” What that means to me is that they wouldn’t agree to do whatever the network wanted them to do with the show, therefore the network fired them, sending a message to the other writers/producers.

But that’s just me reading between the lines…

  8. Cari Says:

whoa this is big! More than the ratings or weird plot twists this season, THIS makes me worried for the future of this show…

  9. Tarot Says:

Man! I wonder what prompted that?

  10. the movement To Put tim Kring In Jail Says:

no one on this site should be shocked by this latest development, there have been many people blogging for months that this was going to happen because of the lawsuit that tim kring and jeph loeb are in with the two artists that tim ripped off the Heroes concept from.
This lawsuit is very serious and for some reason everyone on this site chose to ignore that fact.
now… here’s an update for all you silly morons, more trouble is coming for Heroes.
Why? BECAUSE TIM KRING IS A CRIMINAL AND HE RIPPED THE WRONG PEOPLE OFF.
so keep posting all these stupid comments and watch Heroes get ripped off the air, right in front of your eyes.

  11. Debbie Says:

@ the movement To Put tim Kring In Jail

That lawsuit was long since dismissed as “absurd” by a judge: http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1197367476091

And it never had anything to do with Jeph Loeb??? They had a beef with Tim Kring and the suit was filed against NBC.

  12. Pushing Daisies » Blog Archive » Is Bryan Fuller Moving on to Heroes? Says:

[...] Is Bryan Fuller Moving on to Heroes? by LiRa In case you haven’t heard, NBC has fired two of Heroes writer-producers the other day. They’ve been at the core of production since Season 1 and has left the show because of “creative differences” with the network bosses. The complete story of this is at Watching Heroes. [...]

  13. Kyle Says:

i, for one, am a very creative person. and i can tell u if Loeb or Alexander were ever a little bit creative (in corporate’s view) then they wouldn’t have been fired. they could’ve helped the studio out and used their creative minds to figure a way around a few budget knocks, but no. all they care about is if the show gives them money.

i am VERY unsure about HEROES after this next season now that they are gone…

but i will still be watching!

  14. the movement To Put tim Kring In Jail Says:

    Memo to dumb Debbie,
a white racist judge bought and paid for by NBC, dismissed the lawsuit in a NYC lower court, the lawsuit is now in a higher court.
Why? because those artists civil procedure were violated.
bone up at the law library dummy, and get your facts straight.

the lawsuit has everything to do with Jeph Loeb, and jeph’s going to be in court in just a few weeks defending himself against this heinous crime, thanks to his pal tim.
absurd? Try the story lines on Heroes.
In fact Entertainment weekly magazine Oct 31,2008 called Tim’s story lines “absurd.”
beef with tim? If The Twins really had a beef with Tim Kring, he would have made a trip to the grave yard a long time ago.

  15. the movement To Put tim Kring In Jail Says:

    PROBLEM #2
    ABSURD PLOT TWISTS
    SOLUTION; MAKE THE HEROES SMARTER

BUT WHY BOTHER, WHEN YOU HAVE MORONS LIKE DEBBIE WATCHING THE SHOW.
THE JUDGE( if we can even call this stupid cow a judge) LIED WHEN SHE SAID THE TWINS LAWSUIT WAS ABSURD.
NOW JUST A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE WORD “ABSURD”‘ IS USED TO DESCRIBE THE LAMEST SHOW ON TV TODAY.
THE TWINS MUST BE LAUGHING THEIR ASSES OFF.

  16. STYES Says:

In America, it is always “absurd” to white people whenever black people want their rights.
The Twins are smart to take their case to a higher court, they should go to the Supreme court if it comes to that.
Heroes is finished and tim kring is a joke.
Run Hayden, run Milo, run Masi…. run for your life children.

  17. BIG JUICY Says:

    Here’s what’s absurd:
Flat ass white women in tight blue jeans.
    Now that’s absurd.

  18. AnnieB Says:

No, here’s what’s REALLY absurd - uneducated whack-jobs who love nothing more than the sound of their keys tapping and attempting to spread wildly unrealistic and unfounded conspriacy theories.

Shouldn’t you be over at political websites tonight to let us all know that anyone who voted for McCain is a racist who was bought off by the RNC?
