.07% Recap
As usual, the spoiler alert is in effect.
Let’s get down to it, shall we? HRG is locked up after having been found out by his superiors. After a brief conversation with his boss (Eric Roberts), he is able to get in contact with Parkman, who is being held in a nearby cell. Through Parkman’s telepathy and a little, old fashioned MacGyverisms, HRG is able to tell Parkman how to get free and rescue Sprague. Despite Spragues misgivings, Parkman then goes back and rescues HRG. After they escape they discuss a plan of action. They decide to go to New York to destroy the device that allows Primatech to track super powered beings (through the radio tags, presumably). Parkman reveals that the organization is connected to Linderman, which surprises HRG. They think about going to Vegas to get Linderman, but HRG keeps them focused on NYC and the device.
Linderman reveals to Nathan Petrelli his plan to save the world and it invloves the explosion in New York, which would kill .07% of the world population (hence the title). He believes that this and other events will eventually lead to Nathan being President and unifying the world. He also reveals to Nathan that he has the ability to maipulate/restore plant life.
DL and Jessica get into it over the fact that Jessica is working for Linderman. He tells her that wherever she goes people turn up dead and that if she wants to choose that life, she will need to say good bye to Micah. During the argument, some of Linderman’s people show up to take Jessica to go see Mr. Linderman. When she gets there Linderman asks her for a favor. He wants to talk with Micah. She refuses saying that Micah was never part of the deal and that they would have to go through her to get to Micah. Next we see Jessica taking Micah to see Lindermna who is in a car outside the house. Linderman asks Micah if he would like to help him save the world. As the car drives off and Jessica is left behind, she morphs back into Candice (the Shapeshifter or Illusionist according to Chris) just before the real Jessica pulls up. Candice then walks past Jessica and comments on how nice the car is and strolls off. Jessica is unaware that Micah is gone.
We pick up with Peter coming into Mohinder’s apartment and the confrontation with Sylar. Sylar is cutting Peters scalp, but Peter starts healing as soon as he is cut. Peter then uses his powers to throw Sylar across the room. As they both recover, Peter goes invisible. Sylar uses telekenisis to lift a large pile of glass shards, he then projects them across the room in front of him. One catches Peter in the back of his head, killing him. As Sylar comes to stand over him, Mohinder, who had managed to sneak away during the fight, crashes the map board into Sylar knocking him out. Mohinder takes Peter to the Petrelli family home. When Sylar recovers he finds that the list is gone and it inspires him to rage. He then finds Isaacs address on the floor.
Claire and grandma have some conversation, which is shows the level of detachment she can get from a situation. Peter is delivered to them by Mohinder, who they them tell to leave. Nathan arrives and he and his mother grieve for Peter. this is probably the whiniest we have ever seen Nathan. Claires asks to be alone with him for a moment and discovers the shard in his head. She removes it and he is alive again (ok, we really saw that one coming). Claire and Peter have a moment. Then later on Nathan explains that Claire will need to go away until after the election and when it’s all over she will be brought into the family fold.
Mohinder calls the number to get a hold of HRG, but instead is met by the boss (Eric Roberts) who convinces Mohinder that they share a common goal in capturing Sylar and tht he should work with them.
Isaac gives a bike messenger what he says is the final edition of the 9th Wonders comic he draws. The messenger, also a big fan, seems surprised and asks for a sneak peek. Isaac also turns his sketchbook over to the messenger as a gift. When Sylar arrives, Isaac is calm and they talk. Isaac talks about how he has shown them how to defeat Sylar and diffuse the bomb. Sylar crucifies him to the floor of the studio using paintbrushes, then removes his skull, just like in the pictures. One of the better lines in the episode came in this exchange when Sylar says to Isaac, ‘This is usually the part when people start screaming.’
Hiro and Ando end up five years in the future, with the devastation surrounding them. Ando says that they can go back and fix it, but Hiro says that without know what is going on, they won’t know what to fix. Hiro believes that Isaac may still be alive, so they set out to find him. When they get to the studio, it is criss-crossed with string and article clippings that form a timeline of events. they hear a noise and Hiro draws the sword only to run into future Hiro also with sword drawn.
That sums is pretty much the totality of the episode. The previews for episode twenty are awesome and pretty dark. They occur in the five year leap, so are events that are possible to come if Hiro and Ando can’t fix things.

From the comic books, we learn that Linderman can heal people too. His power is healing. And he’s friends with Nathan’s dad. This makes me think Linderman is Nathan’s real dad. The healing power could have been passed down to Claire.

Definitely and interesting possibility. It would explain his interest in Nathan quite a bit as well.

Did you catch a lot of the Watchmen references? Linderman’s grand plan and Isaac passing on his sketchbook are pretty much ripped out of Watchmen. A lot of people are furious about this - calling Heroes are rip-off - but I think its just Kring and Leob making homages to what has come before.
And its not a total rip-off either. The destruction of New York in Watchmen solves all the problems of the world - but from we see of Hiro’s future, the world Nathan united is in even more dire straits.

It was way too easy for Linderman to grab Micah.
And we learned that Peter can be killed with a glass shard to the head (or rendered useless until it’s removed). Maybe this will be used again???
Otherwise, looking forward to the next episode now that I’m totally hooked.

Couple things…
1. I didn’t realize that the end scene was Hiro meeting future Hiro. I thought it was the messenger “fan” of Isaacs from earlier. The “fan” has the answer to how to kill Syler in Issac’s scrapbook. That’s why he’s put together the timeline with all the information needed to rectify the bomb blast.
2. What the hell happened to Sylar and Mohindar?? Mohindar is laying on the ground bleeding, Peter is “dead” from the shards of glass, and something slides across the floor and clocks Sylar, knocking him out. Next thing we know, Mohindar has Peter in a cab to his mother’s place. Why didn’t Mohindar kill Sylar while he was unconscious?? Why does Mohindar go back to the apartment after Peter’s mom tells him to go away? Wouldn’t he be concerned that Sylar was still there, looking for the list?
3. Peter is “dead” and Nathan shows up. Nathan starts getting all weepy. Didn’t Nathan JUST LEARN that Linderman can ressurect things? Why wouldn’t he immediately attempt to contact Linderman to “heal” his brother?
4. Peter is “dead” but heals after Claire removes the glass shard. In an earlier episode with the invisible man, didn’t we learn that Peter needed to think hard about the people whose skill he was attempting to duplicate? Remember what happened when he wasn’t thinking hard enough about Nathan’s flying ability? Ker-plunk. So, how is he “thinking” about Claire’s healing ability while his brain is flatlined?
These and all other questions will not be resolved in the future.

I don’t like the shape shifter girl. She makes everything too easy, kinda like the girl before that could make you do things with her mind. I think she’s gotta go–the next Sylar victim maybe? If he’s a shape-shifter, couldn’t he be the one who blows up New York (not Peter)?

@Jason Berg
To answer some of your questions.
#2. I’m sure he wanted to get the hell out of there. Sylar has the uncanny ability to spring right up from getting knocked down/out. He also destroyed the computer that had the list on it so it is lost to Sylar. I had the same question on why he went back to the apartment though.
3. I don’t know if you read the virtual comics or not but Lindermans power is to heal. Not resurrect. You’ll see once you read the comic.
4. Remember what happened to Peter at the prep rally in Texas? He “died” then Clair came around and he came back to life. Same concept here. Clair saved his life again.
Hope this answers some of your questions.

Did anyone get the The Third Man reference in the opening scene? Hint: Graham Greene. It gives me goose bumps when writers make a hugely significant reference that maybe, well, .07% of people will get.
April 24th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
just to reply to #4- he can heal without thinking if the person is near him. he only has to think about it if the person isn’t near him (as far as i can tell)

I had an idea today while mulling the episode over. Right before Sylar kills Isaac he says “I finally get to be a hero.” Now originally I thought that he was speaking in terms of the present he gave the bike messenger but then I took it a step further, the guy can see the future and all he has is doodles in his sketchbook? Heck no, I believe Isaac has hidden a very importaint peice of information regarding events slated to happen some time in the remainder of the season in either the sketchbook or the final edition of 9th Wonders. The secret to killing Sylar perhaps? If it were printed in 9th Wonders there would be too many copies for Sylar to keep down no matter how many brains he’s willing to eat.

In reference to the shard of glass in the back of Peter’s head. This is similar to what happened to Clair when she was assaulted in an earlier episode. She wakes up on the autopsy table with her internal organs exposed after the doctor pulls a piece of wood from the back of her head. She can heal, but I quess the base of the skull is a weak point that leaves her, and Peter, immobile. They both had the white eyes also, just like when Issac is painting.

Just a thought… This might sound farfetched but I have the impression Sylar will steal the shape-shifter’s power and Hiro’s power. Then he will have the ability to teleport in time as Hiro and actually mislead Hiro of the past. In the last scene it might be Sylar that shows up and not Hiro of the Future. Hiro will then have a second chance to change the future by going back in time and fix things with his new acquired knowledge.
Now the whole back to the past-future thing has always been impossible to explain so you might discredit the fact that Hiro would still be alive after Sylar would have killed him for his powers, but this was all just a thought.

It’s worth noting that the odd strings criss-crossing Isaac’s apartment in the future were put there by (future) Hiro. I don’t believe it was made explicit by this episode, but I thought it was an interesting plot point from the comic.
April 24th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
It was also implied in the episode itself that Linderman could heal people when he said, “but healing one person at a time wasn’t good enough.” Probably not an exact quote, but good enough.
April 24th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
Manipulate plants? Maybe the person writing the recap should actually watch the show in question. Linderman even said he knew a little about healing as he brought the dead plant back to life, and mentioned later that he realised that healing one person at a time wasn’t enough.
Sheesh.

I have a theory on the ending where Linderman sets off a nuke in NYC. That’s why Future Hiro can’t understand why he failed.
more in my blog.

I love heroes. It sucks though. the show is awesome, the show is stupid and unrealistic.
April 27th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
You said “He also reveals to Nathan that he has the ability to maipulate/restore plant life”
Lol, have you READ the graphic novels? Linderman’s a HEALER, not a GARDENER!
April 27th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
Oh, and the “radio tags” are actually a (entirely fictional) radio-isotope remote tracking system. Again, it’s from the Graphic Novels.
Oh, and Amit, regarding your comment - Linderman can’t be Nathan’s real dad. Nathan was already a toddler when Petrelli Sr. (Dallas) and Linderman (Austin) met in the Graphic Novel. In fact, though in the army, Linderman was still very young.
Lol, sorry, I’m an obsessed fan…obsessed with Heroes AND accuracy!
